What museums have a differentiated rate for foreigners?

The Louvre has announced that it would increase its entry ticket for non-unresolved European Union “About” 30 € against € 22 today from January 1, 2026. This differentiated ticket office will also be implemented in other national museums.

As the postage of ticket prices in the main major museums in the world, very few places impose a higher rate for non-residents. The nearest case is the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in New York, where the premises do not pay a ticket but have the obligation to pass a counter to take a ticket in return for an unused sum but which in the practice would be around 5 dollars (€ 4.70), rarely exceeding $ 10 (€ 9.50).
The differentiated rate also exists in certain sites and museums in non -Western countries such as Machu Picchu in Peru, the forbidden city of Beijing or at the National Museum of Egyptian civilization in Cairo in Egypt.

In France, in practice, there are already many reductions or even free for nationals in many museums, on presentation of supporting documents: for job seekers, beneficiaries of social minima etc. This is how at the Louvre 65 % of French people enter for free (and 28 % of all visitors in 2024). Non -European visitors under the age of 18 will continue to enter for free after January 1, 2026.

Likewise several Western museums have reduced prices until free for some nationals. Thus, access is free 3 months a year for American soldiers at Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Los Angeles) at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts (Met, New York) or even at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA, New York).
