Six years required against Gérard Lhéritier

New twist in the Aristophil affair. On April 14, Gérard Lheriter admitted his guilt as part of an appearance on prior admission of guilt (CRPC) concluded with the Paris public prosecutor’s office. This negotiated procedure should result in a significant reduction in the sentence initially incurred.

Having remained in a position of denial for a long time, the founder of Aristophil admitted his responsibility after more than a decade of protest. “Recognition comes after eleven years of denying the facts”underlines Guy Grandgirard, president of ADC France, which represents some of the victims. According to him, this change of heart came on the eve of imminent incarceration.

The process was initiated at the initiative of the defense: Gérard Lheritier’s lawyer, Maître Benoît Verger, contacted the Attorney General in order to pave the way for this “guilty plea” procedure, generally presented as a tool for simplifying and accelerating legal processing.

This development comes a few months after the judgment rendered in December 2025, following a long trial before the Paris Criminal Court. Gérard Lhérier was then sentenced to five years in prison for fraud and deceptive commercial practices, with a deferred committal warrant. At the heart of the case, the Aristophil system was based on the sale of shares of manuscripts and historical documents, presented as attractive investments. Its collapse left thousands of savers heavily affected.

In return for this late admission, the sanction was reduced. “He had to serve five years in prison. Finally, he gets two years under an electronic bracelet”summarizes Mr. Guy Grandgirard.

On the financial level, a step has been reached: the sentences on the seized sums are now final. Around 100 million euros were recovered and must go to the victims. “This represents about a quarter of the losses, it is substantial, but we are far from the mark”underlines Guy Grandgirard. It remains to organize the redistribution, the terms and timetable of which have not yet been decided.

At the same time, the procedure continues for other protagonists in the case, who had received less severe sentences. The notary, the accountant and the lawyer involved maintained their criminal appeal. “Their role is that of facilitators of the system, not principal authors”observes the president of ADC France. No date has been brought forward.
