Madrid,
It is a top event for lovers of art and antiques: it turns 43 years old. ANTIK Almoneda, the leading Madrid fair in terms of decoration, collecting, creation of all eras and vintage fashion, will take place from April 11 to 19 in pavilion 12 of IFEMA MADRID. During those nine days, this venue will house thousands of collectibles and artistic works dating from Prehistory to the 1960s and 1970s.
This year, ninety antique shops, auctions and galleries will participate in this meeting with pieces from diverse origins and also for different pockets, from Art Deco works and jewelry to books, carpets or paintings and sculptures.
Open to all interested public and based on direct sales, ANTIK Almoneda has scheduled, as usual, an open house on Tuesday, April 14, with free access to all visitors. Every year it adds new features, and in this edition the presentation of the exhibition “MUSIC ICONS: The memorabilia of the stars” will be unprecedented, presented in collaboration with the collector Adrià Codina Ferrer, which will bring together original belongings of great swords of music from the last seventy years, such as Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson, Elton John, David Bowie or Rosalía. We will be able to see emblematic objects used in their concerts and video clips and in historical moments of their careers.
The decoration and the table will have a special role: among the furniture on display we can highlight a pair of armchairs by Paolo Buffa, from the fifties; an original Ecolight Milano table lamp, from the late 1960s; an Art Deco cabinet by Jules Leleu, signed and dated 1940s; a pair of Jacob corner tables; a 19th century French secretaire in solid wood with original patina; an “Orchidée” armchair by Michel Cadestin for Airborne, from 1968; and a Spanish table from the late 18th century with original carving.
Other decorative objects complete this offer, such as a Murano glass vase, from the sixties and seventies; and a pair of Tibetan tibors with bone inlays or a bronze sculpture of partridges, from the 19th century, signed by the Danish Pr. Jenssen.
Those interested in jewelry, costume jewelery and watches will be able to delight in a list of pieces for all styles: jet and Austrian crystal necklaces dated between the end of the 19th century and the 1950s; a 19th century Italian bracelet in gold and coral filigree; another French one from the 19th century, in gold with aquamarine and pearls; and another English articulated in the shape of a snake, in gold, turquoise, garnets and diamonds.
At ANTIK Almoneda, collectors will be able to purchase musical instruments, toys from the beginning of the century, typewriters and photo machines, fans, canes, globes, locks, postcards, books, candelabras, lamps, binoculars, bronzes, music boxes, microscopes, silver, porcelain, glassware, shawls, lace, mantillas, carpets, tapestries and watches, among other objects.
And focusing on art, works by Manolo Valdés, Juan Barjola, Diego Rivera, Óscar Domínguez, Joan Miró, Patrick Hughes, Rafael Barrios, María Blanchard, Jorge Oteiza and Menchu Gal await us at IFEMA, as well as editions of artists’ books, numbered and signed, such as Aurea dictatesby Miquel Barceló; Dalí, the thousand and one nits; either Antoni Tàpies, biography of a Compromís.
Likewise, we will see historical pieces, such as a sculpture of a nobleman from the Egyptian Old Kingdom in granodiorite; a Roman torso of Venus Pudica, in marble; a group of Aphrodite and Eros from the Hellenistic period in marble; and a Roman mosaic from the 1st–2nd centuries AD. C. On the other hand, due to its rarity and its state of conservation, we will have to look at a fossil head of a cave bear from Romania and dated to the Pleistocene.
