Paloma de la Cruz. Costureras en el vial, tres puntadas en la carne y dos en el dedal, 2024

Madrid,

In this year, 2024, which is about to end, there have been 35 editions of the call for the Plastic Arts Circuits of the Community of Madrid, which aims to promote the work of young creators residing in the region, precisely under 35 years of age, and to encourage their access to professional life. On this occasion the selected authors have been Paloma de la Cruz, Juan Couder, Lorenzo García-Andrade, Raquel G. Ibáñez, Luis Lecea Romera, Ana Beatriz Lozano Sinausía, Yosi Negrín, Federico Pozuelo and Javier Ruiz del Río, Pilar del Puerto and Alfonso Valero Amores and his proposals await us, until next February, in the exhibition “Resonance Box”, curated by Isabella Lenzi in the Sala of Young Art.

The title of the project refers to the purpose of this initiative to amplify the concerns and desires of these artists in their beginnings, and those interests that come to life here, in pieces of diverse techniques and formats, have to do with social transformations of the present and the future. : with the progressive automation of domestic and work tasks and the advance of artificial intelligence in directions to be defined, the wars that increasingly feel less distant, the challenges associated with the climate and migrations or the effects of the pandemic that some of these authors still understand current; In short, we will find in this space on Avenida de América projects linked to the most fragile aspect of the individual and society, and at the same time, the one we live in, which the new creators seem to consider transitory towards another to be revealed.

The specific issues of the Spanish context and the global ones come together in the exhibition, and the materialities in which the collected works have been captured also seem to respond to that moment of change and absence of certainties: some of the pieces will be ephemeral or offer digital development, especially those linked to the passage of time, lost memories or the weight of technology when it comes to reconfiguring both human relationships and our understanding of the world; Other works have to do with a desire, perhaps growing since confinement, to reconnect with traditions or with a nature perceived until now as distant, or with the poor treatment inflicted on both.

Given that the personal experience of migration also unites some of the selected artists, the exhibition reflects their desire to delve into the history and identity of their places of origin, focusing on the complexity of constructing that story from a distance; Other relevant locations in the exhibition are those that escape the agile or impossible pulse of urban centers, whether from the periphery or their more or less residual enclaves or from rural areas.

As always in the Young Art Room, this exhibition is accompanied by various activities: until February 1 there will be dynamic visits for groups of between 10 and 30 people; Paloma de la Cruz will offer the performance on January 16 Three stitches in the flesh and two in the thimble; Ana Beatriz Lozano Sinausía will star in a conversation and listening to El Pisito swing songs and bambooJanuary 23; On the 25th of that month, families with children from five years old will be able to attend workshops to learn about the exhibition; Federico Pozuelo and Javier Ruiz will present their performance on the 30th Preparatory notes for the analysis of a simulated ritual and, on February 1, Raquel G. Ibáñez will bring us a live set around Record of minor windshis research into the technologies and materialities of the human and non-human voice through listening to the wind.
