Cruz Novillo and Carlos Franco, among the next in CentroCentro

CentroCentro has announced that it is finalizing for the last quarter of the year an exhibition program consisting of seven new exhibitions that will feature active artists from different generations and linked to the Madrid context, and that will be accompanied by a set of activities, workshops, music and micro-scene.

The first will be inaugurated on October 7 and will be dedicated to José María Cruz Novillo, who participated in its preparation until his death a few months ago. Curated by Pepe Cruz Novillo Jr. and Elena Fernández, it will offer a journey through almost seven decades of a career in which he diluted the borders between graphic design and the plastic arts. Open until January next year, it will consist of works made between 1965 and 2024 and will vindicate this author as a 360º artist.

Two weeks later, on October 21, CentroCentro will begin four new projects on its third floor, which houses exhibitions by creators in their mid-career or emerging stages. The longest will be «Juana González. Indomitable painting”, the first institutional monograph in Madrid of this artist from La Mancha, curated by Fernando Castro Flórez; It will include large-format paintings that expand beyond the canvas and will incorporate for the first time complex sculptural-installative pieces, which dialogue with each other and with the architecture of the space. The itinerary will plunge the visitor into the baroque and post-surrealist universe of Gonzalez, in which two forces come together: the formal dimension and the narrative. It can be visited until April 18, 2027.

Simultaneously, the exhibition “The instant is a living seed” will be presented, a collective exhibition curated by María García Marqués that will display, until the same date in 2027, proposals site specific of eight new artists who develop their practice mainly in Madrid. They will be sculptures, paintings and ephemeral installations that will outline reflections on creative doing as a state in transit, imprecise and latent. Those chosen have been Rubén Ojeda Guzmán (Oaxaca, 1991), Adela Angulo (Madrid, 1999), Livia Daniel (Alicante, 1989), Julieta Hsiung (Suzhou, China, 1997), Natalia Cardoso García (Málaga, 1992), José Casas (Girona, 1995), Maya Pita-Romero (Madrid, 1999) and Pablo Quesada (Valencia, 2001).

Furthermore, and again from October 21, we will see on the same floor two new projects that delve into the intra-history of the methods of other visual artists from Madrid: we refer to «You give me your hands. Archive of creative women”, a sculptural and artistic research work by Elena Jiménez that reviews the traces of these women from plaster molds made of their hands; and “Private Collection”, by Teresa Moro, which has been proposed as a personal exploration of her encounters with authors from the region through the objects, spaces and stories born in their respective studios.

Already in November, CentroCentro will present “Sobre/salto”, the first institutional in Madrid by the Argentine Laura Lio, which will be curated by Nerea Ubieto and can be seen until March. It will address the implications of our multiple, and growing, forms of correspondence: between the postal and the digital, between humans and other species, between word and image or between memory and territory. Bringing together works made in the last fifteen years and new productions conceived for CentroCentro, the tour will lead us to rethink the displacement of the anthropocentric gaze, the poetic power of language and the shocks of our time and will be structured in a large installation site specificsix sheets of mail art, collages, décollages, artist books, drawings, graphic work and projection Make the street. I say it with a signwhich will accommodate your typographic posters, monotypes and photographs.

Finally, the year will culminate in Cibeles with the presentation of “Por el lomo de un landscape con paws”, an exhibition dedicated to Carlos Franco, a key figure in contemporary Madrid figuration and currently found in the collective about the years of the Alcalá 31 movement. Curated by Liliana Ang, it will offer until May a selection of paintings and graphic works produced, again, during the last fifteen years and determined by his well-known interest in mythology, drawing and color.

For its part, the EPICENTRO specific facilities program will host an on-site intervention by Carlos Cartaxo from Valladolid in the Operations Yard, where it will remain until October 18.
