Juana García-Pozuelo. Se acerca, 2025

Gijón,

Juana García-Pozuelo, a Rioja artist formed in both the University of the Basque Country and in New York and Salzburg, is the author of pictorial allegories inspired by emotions and memories, but also in episodes of history and in nature, which usually makes dialogue with the human figure and with her psyche. Many times the titles of their works offer us interpretive keys, but it is the spectators who can relate the elements represented to obtain their own readings and reflections: for Juana, their role is not only contemplator, but also creative.

When he joined our signs, he explained that his selection of issues is usually very free, but not the techniques of his painting, which he chooses and applies rigorously: The truth is that I paint what I feel like at all times or on issues that I find aesthetically suggestive, to which I generally add a dream component. I am attracted to those who have to do with symbolism, the fable, the hidden side of the objects …

I usually work by series, in which I follow guidelines in the construction of the images, such as the use of color or the way to solve the paintings, which make the set of my work visually uniform and make a meaning. Of course there are recurring elements in my production (housing, landscapes, birds, water, fire, flowers …), but the representation and use of these elements has varied throughout the years that I have of a professional career.

Until next October 18, and after exhibiting his miniatures in the last edition of the Artesantander Fair, the Llamazares de Gijón gallery gives him his first individual sample at his headquarters. Under the title of “Romantic Life” and with the police station of María Von Touceda, it presents a set of recent pieces in different formats in which its usual love for exploitation, in figurative scenes, of evocations of sensations and moods, such as desire, nostalgia or look to the past, remains and moves to architectures attached to the city, to the mystery and the mystery and the mystery and the mystery and the mystery and the mystery.

There is some escapist in that choice (in the words of von Touceda, As the current world is presented, which is only governed by the therefore, both vouchers, it is normal for artists, critics and writers to need to take refuge in the nineteenth -century spirit of romanticism to be able to survive), but not only in the preference for romantic subjectivity and individualism. Also for a constant invitation that the author wants to outline in her fabrics: to stop in contemplation and in the walk, in front of the hurry and the desire for production.

Juana García-Pozuelo. It is approaching, 2025

Its referent is, evidently, the nineteenth-century past, but also its own trips and residences in different countries, and in the buildings captured in these works we can assume that García-Pozuelo would enjoy establishing his study, and all, our temporal or permanent residence, with library and garden.

In those mansions, not very different from those of usual Indians in Asturias (more in other areas than in Gijón), another sound will not be heard in our imagination than that of Schubert or Chopin, or that of a soft rain. There is some exception: the compositions that point to the scene of a crime, or a latent evil for happening, such as those that novelty Henry James or Wilkie Collins.

Speaking of Chopin, already in 2019, during a stay at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris thanks to a scholarship of the Institut Français and Bilbaoarte, the artist was interested in the funds of the Vie Romantique Musée, which was Housing of Ary Schaffer and treasures numerous objects of the writer Georges Sand. That is the origin of the series that focuses this exhibition.
