Alice Gandin soon at the Museum of Hunting and Nature

The position has been vacant since the departure in April 2024 of Christine Germain-Donnat. Alice Gandin (52 years old) will occupy it next April. After a long career at the Normandy Museum in Caen, during which she joined the National Heritage Institute, she joined Le Mans in 2019 to manage the city’s museums.

She has undertaken a restructuring of the museums around two centers: the Tessé Museum (the fine arts museum) and the Jean-Claude Boulard Museum – Carré Plantagenêt, an archaeological museum which will soon house the Museum’s natural science collections. Green. Le Mans wants to make this new center in 2026, a museum of natural and cultural history of Le Mans.

“As this merger project at Le Mans illustrates, I am very interested in environmental issues. This is why I am delighted to join the Museum of Hunting and Nature” she explained to Arts Journal. The future director intends to maintain the editorial line driven by Claude d’Anthenaise, Christine Germain-Donnat’s predecessor, based on openness towards contemporary art turned towards nature.

The Museum of Hunting and Nature, created in 1967 by François and Jacqueline Sommer, is located in the Marais district of Paris. It presents an eclectic collection of objects related to hunting, ancient and contemporary works of art, and stuffed animals, illustrating the relationship between man and nature. The Foundation museum benefited from a significant extension in 2021.
