Villa Getty will reopen on June 27

Closed for several months following the fire which had partially devastated Los Angeles, the Villa Getty will reopen its doors to the public on Friday, June 27. The establishment had been evacuated and closed on January 7, while the flames threatened the site. Since then, the Getty teams have worked in collaboration with the local authorities to test the safety of the premises, and have decided to borrow $ 500 million (around 465 million euros) to anticipate new risks.

The museum will now adopt a limited pace: it will be accessible from Friday to Monday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendance will be limited to 500 people per day, with free tickets to book online. The car park rate remains set at 25 dollars (around 23 euros).

The Getty Villa will host a new exhibition entitled “The Kingdom of Pylos: Warrior-Princes of Ancient Greece”, visible from June 27, 2025 to January 12, 2026. This exhibition will highlight more than 230 works and artefacts from Messénie, flagship region of Mycenaean civilization at the end of the Bronze Age. The previous exhibition, “Ancient Thrace and the Classical World”, interrupted by the fire, is now accessible online in virtual version.

The outdoor theater of Getty will also resume its activities in the fall, with the 19ᵉ edition of its annual production: “Oedipus the King, Mama! », In collaboration with the Troubadour Theater Company.
