Only a partial reopening, since the work should continue at least until 2027. Victim of an arson attack in 2020, the cathedral has been undergoing intensive restoration since September 2023, launched following a long decontamination phase. The project – estimated at 32 million euros and entirely financed by the State – is currently focusing on the restoration of the choir and the south arm of the transept where many cut stones and vaulting joints have been damaged. This will be followed by the complete repair of the electricity networks and safety and accessibility features, as well as the reassembly of the great organ.
The main entrance will remain closed during this second phase of work, which will mainly consist of restoring the western massif, the part of the building most severely affected by the flames. Visitors will therefore enter through the side doors and will not have access to this part, which will be covered with a tarpaulin.
The final stage of the project: the creation of a new glass roof, which is still the subject of consultation. Several options will be examined next year by the National Commission for Heritage and Architecture.
