Who is Lauriane Gricourt, the new director of Abattoirs?

The selection jury which was held on December 6, 2023 did not look far for the replacement of Annabelle Ténèze, who left to take over the management of the Louvre Lens. Lauriane Gricourt (33 years old) is familiar with the place since she has held the position of curator and exhibition curator there since 2022. Trained in art history and museology at the École du Louvre, she studies there bodily artistic practices, and in particular the history of Moscow performance.

In 2013, she became project manager for the Tecniarte company which was responsible for the programming of the Maillol Museum (Paris), then in 2015, head of collections at the Carmignac Foundation (Paris-Porquerolles). From 2016 to 2022, she held the position of “senior curator” at the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art (Paris). At the same time, she co-founded the Enoki Collective with Ludivine Pangaud and the artist Joanna Wong.

As curator of Abattoirs de Toulouse, Lauriane Gricourt notably co-organized exhibitions by artists Shona Illingworth, Liliana Porter and Tabita Rezaire. With Annabelle Ténèze and Julie Crenn, she is currently preparing the exhibition “Artists and peasants. Beat the countryside”, which will be held at Les Abattoirs from March 1 to August 25, 2024 and which will explore the relationship between artists and peasants since the 19th century.
