Terrorism Memorial Museum: the chronology of the events

New episode in the Museum-Murical Terrorism project. This will not open in Suresnes (Hauts-de-Seine), “abandoned because too expensive,” confirmed the historian Henry Rousso, president of the prefiguration mission, to theAFPSeptember 8, 2025.
The decision, resulting from a meeting at the Élysée on September 2, between advisers from Emmanuel Macron and those responsible for the public interest group piloting the project, is now to consider another site in Île-de-France, whose choice will be revealed by the end of September, a few weeks before the tenth anniversary of the attacks of November 13, 2015.

The project was based on the conversion of an old outdoor school classified as a historic monument – on the hill of Mont Valérien – but the restoration of this building consumed between 90 % and 95 % of the total budget, according to Henry Rousso. Faced with these high costs, the Élysée proposed in substitution three to four sites under the Ministry of the Armed Forces, including one located intramural, without more details for the moment.

Announced in 2018 by Emmanuel Macron, this establishment was to pay tribute to the victims of terrorism, in France and internationally. It was initially planned for an opening in 2027, funded by four ministries – justice, culture, interior and armed – but has already experienced vagaries, in particular the disappearance of the first credits of state payments in the 2025 budget project.
