The Soulages Museum in Rodez is about to write a new page in its history with the appointment of Maud Marron-Wojewodzki in its management. This 44 -year -old heritage curator will take office on July 1, 2025, succeeding Benoît Decron, who led the institution for sixteen years.
A graduate of the Louvre school and former student of the National Heritage Institute, Maud Marron-Wojewodzki began his career at the Cantini Museum in Marseille, before joining the New Orleans Museum of Art in the United States. In 2019, she joined the Fabre Museum in Montpellier as responsible for modern and contemporary collections and multimedia service. She organized several major exhibitions, including Pierre Soulages, the meeting in 2023, celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the artist’s exceptional donation to the Fabre museum. This exhibition illustrates the deep ties between Soulages and the Montpellier museum, which houses one of the most important public collections of his works after Rodez.
The Soulages museum, inaugurated in 2014, was born from the exceptional donation of 250 works and 250 documents by Pierre et Colette Soulages in 2005. Located in Rodez, the artist’s hometown, it presents the largest world collection of his works, including paintings, works on paper, prints and boxes of the famous stained glass windows of the Conques. Designed by the Catalan cabinet RCR Arquitects, its Corten steel building and its clean spaces offer immersion in the universe of the artist of “black-light”.
Benoît Decron, in office since the opening of the museum, played a decisive role in making it a living place, open to contemporary creation, in constant connection with Pierre Soulages until the artist’s disappearance in 2022. His mandate will end on June 30, 2025, before his retirement scheduled for February 2026.
The appointment of Maud Marron-Wojewodzki was approved unanimously by the board of directors of the establishment. Building on her expertise on the work of Soulages and her experience in the management of large institutions, she intends to pursue the influence of the museum on a national and international scale.
